About Sunrise Corner

The owners of SunRise Corner have traveled extensively on the East Coast participating in numerous craft shows, some highly juried, and some outside festivals. During these trips, they have had ample opportunity to view craft creations that will never be found in the network of wholesale markets.

It has been our intent over the years to select and purchase from these varied and large venues of specific art forms that are not readily available on the mass market. Being aware of the look and décor of the 1810 Antique House, Anne selects paintings completed by several artists consistent with the ambiance present in particular rooms.

SunRise Corner was originally located in Jefferson, Maine. Situated high on a hill overlooking Damariscotta Lake, in 1992 SunRise Corner was born. An old Indian tole denoted this location as SunRise Corner (known for its abundance of deer and other wildlife) to be the first place in Jefferson that the sun would shine. Anne Farrar, owner of SunRise Corner, adopted the store’s name from this story.

SunRise Corner relocated to Standish Village Corner in 1998 at the historic Marean House, Circa 1810. This charming building was earlier saved from being torched by the town of Standish, by Sally Rand of Freeport, an architectural historian. This complex of buildings has been lovingly restored, enhancing the features of days gone by.

Cecil and Anne Farrar considered this house the ideal find to display SunRise’s unique line of artian treasures from all over the East Coast. It’s location at the intersection of Routes 25 and 35 in Standish Village is within walking distance of the Old Red Church and the historic Marrett House across the street, and proved to be an ideal location for the appropriate presentation of their unique product line.

Originally located in the 3-sory Federal House with six display rooms, SunRise Corner has become known New England wide of it’s ambiance and feelings of nature’s peace. The cliche’ “a picture is worth a thousand words” comes to mind, as only seeing is believing. This magical atmosphere is not a “gallery of find crafts,” but a howcase of ideas and talents representing a look at simple days long past.

In 2003, SunRise Corner was further complemented by expanding the business to the two-room schoolhouse. Its original wainscoting, tin ceilings, and bulls-eye woodwork with slate blackboards make the perfect backdrop for our Candle, Flower, Fudge and Gift Boutique.

In 2009, we expanded again into a 20th century Fire Barn, using a European open-market concept; known in the US as resembling an “Old Country Store.” Maine-made ice cream from one of Maine’s largest and oldest ice cream makers is offered in an “Old Ice Cream Stand” setting. The market will eventually offer candies and baked goods prepared by local people and will offer a Farmer’s Market one or two evenings a week.

Of course, our loyal customers already know that a visit to SunRise Corner means shopping outside as well as inside. The extensive gardens and Maine’s largest selection of birdhouses, lawn and garden accents shown in and around this two-acre complex makes for a memorable garden stroll as well as a shopping spree.
